On January 8th, 2007 Decatur Modern introduced the Decatur Modern Design Challenge as a stimulus to modernist architects to design classic modern homes reminiscent of the timeless designs of Richard Neutra, Rudolph Schindler, and the sons of the Bauhaus School of Architecture updated to the aesthetic and lifestyle of the 21st century. These homes were designed for the average urban infill single family home site where bungalows and shotgun houses from the early 20th century once resided. The DMDC homes program was formulated to inspire the creation of homes that fit into and enhance existing neighborhoods with sophisticated design and not overwhelm the scale of the existing surrounding structures. The result is a portfolio of exciting and forward thinking dwellings.

The inaugural DM Design Challenge took off!  Designers from around the country and the world began to pour in entries.  On March 20th, 2007, a small group of modern designers and design professionals gathered at Lightroom Studios in Decatur, Georgia to select the winners …. the result is D|MOD
